Marso Measure Update

Marso Measure Update

Marso Measure has had a busy April. Two releases, 26.1.4 and 26.1.5 have shipped back to back, and between them they cover a meaningful update to the processing model, a new set of quality-of-life features, and a round of bug fixes that address some of the more frustrating edge cases users have hit.

Here's what's changed, and what's coming next.

A Better Model

The headline change in 26.1.4 was a new processing model, and the improvements are across the board.

Metal and non-metal surfaces are now separated more accurately, which was one of the more common sources of inconsistency in output. Roughness values are more consistent across materials. Normal map output is stronger. Colour accuracy has improved, meaning what you capture is closer to what you actually see.

The model is intended for use on all materials. One exception worth noting: for black, shiny, non-metal objects, our narrow model remains the better choice for now.

If you've been working with Marso Measure for a while, the difference will be noticeable. Run a comparison against previous outputs and see for yourself.

System Notifications and Better Support Tooling

Also in 26.1.4: system toaster notifications now fire when an asset changes status. If you're working across multiple assets or stepping away while something processes, you'll know when it needs attention without having to check back manually. The setting is controllable if you'd rather keep things quiet.

On the support side, there's now a log collection button that packages your log files into a zip automatically. If you need to raise an issue with the team, this removes the manual hunting around for log locations, one click and it's ready to send.

CR3 Preview and In-App Learning

26.1.5 adds experimental JPEG extraction for CR3 files. Canon R-series shooters can now preview captures directly in the Develop and Process modals without converting files first. It's marked experimental for now, but for the workflow it's a meaningful step forward.

Video tutorials are also now embedded directly in the application. Look for the education button in the bottom left of relevant modals. There's a new Learning Centre with a full tutorials page built into the app, a good reference whether you're just getting started or picking up a less familiar part of the workflow.

Bug Fixes

Across both releases, a number of issues have been resolved:

  • A process hang on systems with very high CPU core counts

  • Clicking outside a modal would unexpectedly close it

  • An argument validation error when creating basic exposures via CLI

  • A parsing failure in the 3D viewer that would display 'No Textures Available'

  • An uninstall issue where a running processing server would cause problems

  • A Windows restart manager issue that would fail to act

What's Next

The next model release is the biggest we've shipped. The improvements in 26.1.4 were incremental, what's coming is a step change. More on that soon.

We're also working on editing functionality within the viewer, alongside a broader set of viewer upgrades. The goal is to give you more control over your outputs without leaving the application.

Updates will land in Discord first, then here.
